StandStrong is a not-for-profit organization that teaches self-defense skills to keep the community safe, confident, and proud as we stand up to hate and intimidation.

Josh Andre, a lone soldier recently returning from active duty in Gaza, will lead the class. The class will cover some fundamental self-defense skills, such as managing one's surroundings and disengaging from common street attacks.

The class will consist of 45 minutes of instruction followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. Water, electrolytes, protein bars, and fruit will be provided after class.

Josh, a 29-year-old American-Israeli, bridges two cultures with an impressive background. A former Chicago Golden Gloves Champion (2015) and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he applied his martial arts expertise as an instructor for StandStrong, providing self-defense training to the Jewish community.

Josh earned a Master’s degree in Social Work and gained practical experience at North Shore Academy in Highland Park. His deep connection to his Jewish heritage inspired his decision to make Aliyah to Israel. Enlisting in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as the oldest soldier to be drafted, Josh joined the elite Yamas unit, known for black ops, counterterrorism, and special operations, which inspired the Netflix show “Fauda.” His exceptional leadership and contributions earned him a “Certificate of Excellence.”

Now engaged to his fiancée, Reef, Josh Andre has returned to build his life, drawing on his diverse experiences and deep-rooted cultural connections.
