Chalk the Walk: Fill Hersh's Fridge
Join the Chicago Jewish Alliance and SOLU for an evening of creativity, kindness, and community! Together, we'll brighten the sidewalks around Hersh's Fridge with colorful chalk art while collecting kosher, dry goods pantry donations to help local families in need.
Hersh's Fridge is the nation's first kosher outdoor community fridge, open 24/7 for anyone in need to take or share food. It serves dozens of Jewish and non-Jewish neighbors every day, helping ensure everyone has access to kosher food with dignity. This event takes place during the Three Weeks, a solemn period on the Jewish calendar commemorating the destruction of Jerusalem. During this time, many Jews focus on acts of kindness, charity, and strengthening the community. Join us as we honor that tradition by serving our neighbors and giving back together.
Bring your family, friends, and creativity! Community members of all ages are invited to create uplifting artwork celebrating kindness, hope, Jewish values, and community. Whether you're an experienced artist or simply want to have fun, everyone is welcome. Chalk will be provided. Just bring your imagination! Together, we'll create beautiful public art, help fill Hersh's Fridge, and make a lasting difference for our neighbors.
Please bring: Kosher, dry goods pantry donations for Hersh's Fridge. Please make sure all donations have an accepted kosher certification. View the list of acceptable kosher certifications here: Acceptable Kashrus Agencies - cRc Consumer Kosher.
